About Us
Speech and Debate at Denton Guyer High School was founded in 2005 by Ms. Dixie Waldo and led by Ms. Karen Gossett from 2007 to 2015. The program enjoyed considerable success, particularly in Extemporaneous Speaking, Congressional Debate, and Oral Interpretation.
From 2015-2020, under the direction of Dr. Jason Sykes and followed by Walter Willis, the program was highly successful and competed in more than 30 tournaments ranging from local invitationals to national qualifiers and state championships. Since 2020, the program has been operating in a classroom setting only.
